Ask the specific question.
"Could a 48V branch circuit handle a mini-split?" gets a real answer the same day. "Would love to pick your brain sometime" sits in the inbox because I don't know what you need.
Tell me what you've already read.
If you've looked at the patent abstract or the OpenH₂O write-up, say so — then I can skip the background and answer the actual question.
Send the form letter.
If the same email could go to fifty other people, I can usually tell. A sentence about why you're writing to me specifically goes a long way.
Pitch crypto / NFT / MLM things.
The 48V patent is about residential wiring, not mining rigs. These get deleted unread.
Offer a mentor swap.
If you build hardware for a living and could look over my KiCad drafts for half an hour, I'll trade you what I know — FRC controls, board-level repair, or teaching tech to a room of skeptical seniors.
Invite me to speak.
I've run library workshops, coached FLL kids, and presented to town officials. Tell me the audience and the topic. Free for schools, libraries, and nonprofits.
